Meet the Team behind the team
Ryan Handfield
Program Director — NPU Rebels
Ryan has been working in the hockey world for well over a decade, coaching over twenty teams across a variety of calibers and age groups. He created Velocity Hockey Development in 2014, fueled by a passion to help players in Montreal improve as much as they can. Ryan believes on-ice trainings should be as much about teaching & learning as they are about pace and speed, and designs his Velocity sessions around skills that are directly transferable to game situations. He is known as a passionate coach, a strong communicator and someone who tries to get the most he can out of every player on the team.
In 2025, after 2 years assisting the Rebels as a coach, Ryan announced his acquisition of the program from previous owner & founder Dan Deschatelets and is now focused on carrying on Dan’s original vision and philosophy to push the program to new heights.
